There's so much murkiness surrounding Tesla'a systems, much of it fueled by their claims and some is from outside. "Autopilot" is the lane-keeping following-distance-maintaining cruise control. "Full Self-Driving" is the system that can allegedly handle intersections, lane-changee, turns, etc. I've owned my Model 3 for 6 years, and have kept it because its resale tanked and I can't afford to replace it. I 1000% agree that Tesla has consistently overstated the effectiveness of their various driving assists. That is not in contention. The suit itself is confusing "Full Self-Driving" with "Autopilot". I don't know if the updates to their attentiveness system happened before this incident, but it's pretty hard to not pay attention. The strikeout system is more strict than before.
I'm a f*cking idiot, but I figured out how to use "Autopilot" safely quickly. I feel awful for the man in this case, but HOLY SHIT digging around on the floor for your phone is never safe.
