The whole idea of anticipating ai consciousness, feels similar to pro-life sentiments. As in why are we focusing on something that is so murky, instead of the people who we know are conscious and suffering that we could help. Obviously, the two are different and comparing them is probably not the best idea, but i feel the same frustration when people who pretend to be so empathetic are actually just ignoring real life problems in favor of thought experiments
