I don't care if it's capital-A Art for pretentious snobs, the benefit of benerative AI is that anyone can use it and with a bit of persistence get a decent illustration for an RPG character sheet, fanfic OC, or meme. Artistes who want to make capital-A Art will keep doing it anyway, just like how people who like candles still make and use candles for aesthetic reasons or for when there's some situation where candles actually are the best answer. Everyone else just flips a switch, the lights come one, and that's the end of it. Personally I still do hand sketches a fair bit, as my own visual art interests tend to Transformers or Macross style robots that can turn into other cehicles or objects, and AI is still garbage at even getting something that looks plausible for that, let alone actually being able to mechanically transform, just like candles are really useful when electric power isn't available. That doesn't mean I don't use the light switch, nor that I want to spend hours on penciling, inking, scanning, and coloring a squishy in a vac suit for a pilot image when I can tell an AI "anime girl in tight blue and white flight suit full helmet" and call it done. So yes, count me in the voices saying "get over yourself." The existence of AI art in no way prevents anyone who wants to do it by hand form grabbing a pencil and going wild, and if anything being fueled by that passion is the only real measure of capital-A Art for art's sake. If you're salty about the economic repercussions, you'd better start buying a lot of candles, but take comfort in how many otherwise unemployed candlemakers you can support, lighting up a studio to make videos!
