I have heard that AI system learn by "reading" things on the internet. People have always realized a gradient of validity in all data and written communications. We also realize how often things are written that express ideas that aren't meant to be taken literally, like satire and works of fiction. Further, and maybe more importantly, we all also know that many things are written with a given purpose or motivation to either support or debunk ideas that are meant to not be readily recognized in the thing that was written (think advertising, think politics). How does AI recognize the extent to which humans don't always mean what we say and/or say what we mean?
