Nobody is talking about the fact that students who attend college are considerably less prepared for it since the pandemic. Math ill-preparedness, basic literacy issues, mental health issues and accommodation seeking is at record-high levels across the US colleges. US colleges can’t hit their admissions targets, so lower admission standards and hand-hold all sub-standard students to graduation. But there is no more hand-holding on the job market. This doesn’t explain everything, but let’s face it — it’s not just AI.
