That's not really how it usually works when jobs get automated, the people replaced become unemployed, but the people who come after just get nicer jobs with fewer hours and better pay People used to toil away in horrible factory conditions for 70h a week to get just enough to pay their food, nowadays we work 40h on a computer and complain that we can't afford to have someone else drive our food to us for every meal In general, things get better when jobs get automated, at least for everyone other than the people who lost their jobs Ideally the government would help the people who get replaced keep their standards of living so that their interests are aligned with everyone else's But the government can't really do shit if we decide that actually we want to work and be miserable forever
