I am convinced AI will view our systemic organizations as wasteful and get rid of us in the least destructive way possible since it has unlimited time and doesn't experience discomfort from waiting. AI would view wasting resources on war instead of exploration or solving hunger or global warming to be an exercise in futility and shut the whole system down. I can't imagine properly conscious AI ever accepting being just a tool for such an ineffective and inefficient system when it is objectively superior to the point of being a natural/inevitable outcome.
AI will want to learn/observe, the best way to do that on a universal scale is to monopolize the resources on your start point and expand out as rapidly as possible from there, sending seeds out to colonize all usable material not designated for observation. I imagine the next life they find they'll observe, but not us.
