I would never trust my life or anyone else's to Tesla's camera-only exercise in cost-cutting. Waymo autonomous taxis operating in Phoenix and Los Angeles (and other cities) use lidar, radar and ultrasonic sensors in addition to cameras, and are extremely high-functioning. I've used them many times, as have many friends and neighbors. No driver or monitor on board, no empty promises, just safe, seamless service.
