I'm a Christian and a coder.I don't invite criticism for believing in fairytales when my fairytale is better than your dystopian nightmare. I also believe Christ won't allow this to happen just as Babel was destroyed. There is hope for all. The fact is, we never learn. The John Connor meme of "we're not going to make it are we?" will become the desperate scratches made on prison walls. What leaves me aghast is that people, my company, intelligent professionals are buying into the wafer thin sell that is so obvious a child should get it. Copilot, Chat GPT, makes you work better, faster...save 30% of your time, but as one person put it will bosses stick their nose up at 100% of your time? Of course not! So it's not your friend, it's not cute, it's not benevolent. It is driven by money. Eternal growth....not that this is possible on finite resources without moving the dross out of the way, and that's what Fry is hinting at in this doc. Josef Goebbles once said "repeat a lie enough and it becomes true" - this is why the politicians, the big tech companies, and the company bosses gush over AI again and again. It's mostly for our benefit so we see it and believe. Perhaps the tech bosses are greedy and so just obediently repeat the mantra, but people at the top [Altman] know the truth. This guy is so sure of the benevolence of AI he's built a full on fallout shelter for himself with years of supplies. Altman must be stopped [they tried, and enourmous finanical muscle was leveraged to reverse it] To my mind there needs to be a government led co-ordinated, simultaneous attack on the data centres. Israel is hitting Iran and that may well be due to nukes, but these centres quietly evade detection. No warning, and no staggering of the strike. Altman is an evil man, in the company of many more evil men. The last paragraph is my perspective from a human standpoint. Do they think God will allow the created to create something to rival Him and His throne? One last thing that might factor in is human creativity. Don't be fooled by those beautiful AI generated images as not one pen stroke is authentic and not stolen. It needs us to create. It can steal but only from what we've created to date.
