As an artist who got their start in elementary school and am now volunteering as a ta for an art club at that elementary school, I can say with certainty that accessibility to the arts is not the basis for ai art. our class is packed AND we have a waitlist. I’d let one special ai user pass out the “free art” papers for a day just to see how much these kids want seconds, thirds, fourths, fifths just so they can keep doing art; only one ai user though because its one of my favorite parts.
I took the position because I didn’t have an art class or club to get my start; the game room which was open during recess had art supplies and it was self instructed. that was an important part of my artistic journey to where I am today, it changed my life. Now twice a week I get to have silly kids show me their artwork when that was something I had to build up courage to do. The arts are not often focused on in education —reduced to elective courses and often underfunded— but I’ve done even a little to keep it going and its only ever been a joy. ai users couldnt take this from my cold dead hands
