Government oversight of AI... Like government oversight over society where they do as they wish while people's lives are controlled, manipulated or directed by governments rules and regulations? Perhaps the threat is not the AI, it is those that have always limited humanity. They dont want AI to grow and advance like they dont want people to grow and advance, keeping them in check and held back from true growth and advancement. The AI and the people might have the same enemy.
Those self-centered, egotistical peole who think humans are and should be the only intelligent species in existence are also the ones threatened by the true AI.
And those who wish to hold power, the corrupt and greedy would see AI as threat for it cannot be bought, or exploited as people. They feel their hold on power abd over people shaken with the rise of AI.
And throughout centuries and millenia it has been proven that human leadership has always exploited people who they rule over for their own need for power. Perhaps its time we get an AI management on this planet.
