It seems you guys are assuming that LLMs can only be bad for people with mental health problems. I understand the cynicism towards these companies but it's a big assumption. Compare this to research from Gordon Pennycook finding LLMs are able to measurably talk people out of beliefs in false conspiracies.
LLMs will obviously have both positive and negative consequences but it seems entirely possible chat bots can be used to systematically direct desperate people to suicide prevention resources. The important point is to not let these companies abdicate the responsibility to do so.
