Here's a problem that I see seldom mentioned: If corporations commission artists, treat and pay them poorly (which is the norm) to produce advertising (which is the main usecase corporations have for art) and it's soulless slop (which is also the norm) then it's not a loss for the Arts, because it is completely irrelevant if a human or a machine produced the slop. The thing is: At some point in the future, people will notice and get sick of the same generic looking slop and the corporations will be forced to hire people to manage the AI's to produce sufficiently different slop (which AI won't be capable of, no matter how much training data you feed it, and better programming won't fix it either) To do that, they will need to hire people that are a) versed in generative AI and b) have experience making Art the hard way - otherwise you are stuck in a machine circlejerk where no component actually knows what they're doing. So to get into the market for soulless advertising slop to pay your bills in the future, it would be very advisable to pick up image generation today and integrate it into your toolset, explore the strengths and weaknesses of each model (and there are many of the latter) and use them beyond the executive level of "insert words - receive image" like... you know... an actual artist.
