for around half a year, I did absolutely no practice I simply lived, I wasn't even actively pursuing it But well, how can I say this I was deluding myself I looked at so many things, and interpreted all of them artistically yet, I did no real practice at the end of that, when I started drawing again, somehow I got better Is that talent? I thought that, and I still like to think that After all, it feels good to notice how much my past art sucks But most likely, it was just me clearing my mind I recognized what I liked and what I disliked Understanding one thing leads to understanding another, and the more I understand, the more I learn what I like and dislike The more I exposed myself to that, the easier I could imagine it The process How I would make my art Simply put, if there's a problem in my art, then it's not my art being bad It's me not liking something about my art, or feeling like something's missing Those 6 months of simply observing made me understand my preferences much more clearly and in detail And now, I come to realize that there's no such thing as good or bad art, it's just what I personally like Even things that I don't like help me pave the path for my process, so there really isn't such a thing as bad art for example, a very rough sketch made by a kid if something in it scratches my brain for some reason, then that universally considered "bad art" isn't actually bad art Ah, I realized something I was about to say that "Maybe the kid also has their brain scratched by that part and that's why they did it like that" But they don't really think about how it would look before drawing it, do they? They just try to draw it the best way they can understand and interpret it Maybe afterwards, that aspect scratches their brain, but definitely not while making it So, maybe that's a problem that a lot of people who try to start art have? They don't know what they like, they're just trying to make something the way they think it SHOULD be made hm, that's interesting I like discovering new things just by thinking In other words, one should not learn art via a standard of "correctness" but simply by compiling things that they like and dislike it's pretty obvious in hindsight, but I'm sure that there's plenty of people that draw with the mindset of "Artstyle looks good, so I want to draw like that artstyle" instead of trying to understand what exactly it is they like about that artstyle I see, that's why AI feels off it doesn't have things that it likes or dislikes, it goes through art with the idea that there's a "correct" path If it's replicating an artstyle, then of course there's a correct path but the people who use AI don't realize that the essence of fanart is to interpret it the way they like In the exact same way, they would draw an anime character while trying to replicate the artstyle People don't realize how much of art is based off of their own autonomy and solipsism I used to be like that It's sad to think that some people give up just because they don't realize that
