What the professor is describing @0:40 is called ray tracing: a computer graphics technique that simulates how light behaves in real life, to create more realistic images by tracing the path of light rays. (according to Google). He refers to a single point of light (outside sunshine), but what if there are multiple sources of light, as is mostly the case with indoor lighting. well you'd have to ray trace all the sources of light to deduce if an image is real or fake. I think it's only a matter of time before generative AI will be able to accurately ray trace and render hyper-realistic looking scenes that will probably fool most people.
