I had that "platooning" idea many years ago, but it was because of my crazy commutes in LA, 45+ minutes each way. I kept thinking there should be an app where I could "hitch a ride" with another car, through an app. Like someone says they're willing to drag 3 cars for a while, and you hit that you want to become a car in the train, and it tells you who up ahead to look for, and you pull up behind them, and the cars and apps talk, and you just automatically follow them. It could be a money thing, like you pay a dollar, or some small rate, like a penny a mile, and there's a limit maybe of 2 or 3 cars, so you don't end up being an actually train. I really just wanted to be able to read a book or take a nap while commuting. It could beep to alert me when the driver needed to exit, or was done being the engine, and you'd just take back over. It was all a pipe dream, but I guess maybe now it might happen. It only took 10 years or so since I had the idea.
