It makes sense why artists are upset by this, but I'd encourage everyone to make an effort to hear both sides of the argument before joining the Anti-AI brigade. This is revolutionary tech and it will be financially disruptive and demoralizing to working artists even if the models were all purely built on public domain images. Nothing short of outlawing this tech entirely will change that. Also we need to keep in mind that this tech is going to get exponentially more powerful in all domains and that life as we know it might look completely different a decade from now because of it. If we close down and cripple this tech for the general public then that might leave it only in the hands of the corporations, technocrats, and hostile foreign nations, and to me that seems like a far worse outcome than a tiny segment of the population needing to alter their career plans at this one short point in time.
