"Most people want to be productive" Yeah, sure, but do people really want to be janitors? To clean up other people's shit for a living to fight off homelessness? People want to have a CHOICE, and right now, we don't have one. The problem with AI isn't that it will replace jobs, it's that western economies have grown to require labour exploitation to operate. Work is already dehumanizing for anyone without enough money to not have to work, precisely because it is enforced through coercion. Even if I could make a living doing something I choose to do in my free time, this wouldn't change. Why? Because now, it doesn't do it by choice, the reason I do it, and how I go about it, is now because I need to put food on my plate. If I fail somehow, I am homeless, and homeless people, in reality, are not treated as citizens; their rights are not upheld. What is productive in a world where what we actually produce from our labor is mostly useless shit anyway? Does it feel productive working 80-hour weeks to barely make ends meet? Does it feel productive to work just 40 hours, but handling meaningless paperwork or trying to sell things to people they don't want? All to make more money for someone who doesn't need any more, to put food on my table. Most people havenoto been, or felt productive in decades. I believe in the fight against irresponsible spending, a broken economy, corrupt government, etc. Those are responsible for the problems of AI. My problem is, the fight against AI sometimes starts to sound like the fight FOR being exploited. AI being such a danger to jobs is only evidence that it's all fucked in the first place, and it was already getting worse well before AI entered the picture. We should WANT AI to replace most work, certainly the shitty meinal work. Most of the "development" of our world has always been simply making exploitation more efficient, making it more palatable. What has changed is that now, that next step in efficiency doesn't include most of us, making it much less so. What needs to change is that the 99% of us that do NOT given a choice, despite the resources to do so, to be given one.
