With regards to the question of why nobody is protesting or screaming about it is this, I think the reason is one I’ve seen you mention before. Most of the sort of people drawn to this subject tend to be a quite nerdy, introverted, possibly autistic types who are very stoic about everything and not prone to outbursts of emotion. This is a total dead end as far as communicating the issue to the public goes, because the general public communicate based on vibes and emotion. If you talk about this issue in a calm/technical manner, they’ll just infer from the vibe that this is a boring/technical issue that isn’t worth getting scared about and leave it at that. It doesn’t matter that the verbal content is scary, because that will be overruled by the very unscary vibe. The public need emotion before they’ll take it seriously. Not in the sense of actual screaming, but to communicate it with urgency and feeling. But there is almost zero overlap between people aware/concerned about AI x-risk and people who would be disposed to do this. All the people who would protest and shout are doing that already with other issues. I don’t exactly know what the solution is to this, but it's is definitely something that needs addressing in AI safety communications.
