Something to note on why image generators can't really be labeled as a tool. AI has always been under the umbrella of automation, the whole point of it being intelligent is so it can substitute its intelligence for yours so it can act autonomously, hence the term. A tool helps you do something, it doesn't do it for you.
The people who insist on calling it a tool are going to find out the hard way that it's not once it becomes more profitable for these ai companies to run these systems completely independent of human input. A scenario that would enable that is that if its granted copyright protection. These ai companies would rather sell these systems for a lump sum to big players to let them monopolise art instead of profiting over time from consumer subscriptions. The high cost of training a fully up to date model will prevent anyone besides a peer from competing.
