this is so shortsighted, the result of the AI and robot revolution will be new jobs and cheaper products.. These "billionaires" are betting their own money on it, subsidizing it to develop it further. So while suzy sits on her ass after getting back from waiting tables, we are busting our balls so she can ask chatgpt what to cook and have a robot delivery bot bring the ingredients to her. The worry shouldnt be a changing labor marker, you rightly condemn trump for doing the same with coal, those are shit jobs that should die for a reason. What you SHOULD be worried about is people becoming unemployable, to many people deprived of responsibility, working for mega corpos that dont give a fuck about them, their growth, taking on responsibility, etc. The REAL issue in america is mono culture, you see it in finance, in shops and in food, you see it everywhere. Y'all eat the same damn processed food from the same misery factories. When people work at huge companies, their responisbility and learnings are absolutely tiny, table stakes. so when an AI takes over they are all looking for others jobs at the same time, competing for wages. Thats NOT what you want, Bernie people have to get the fuck out of the taxi business, in a few years Uber and lyft will no longer employ people, you might call me crazy now (you would have just a few years ago) but i think people can see the way the wind is blowing. Food delivery, truck driving, uber, etc, hell even creative freelancing and coding, costumer service, sales, all these jobs and many more will radically change. This is not something the US can just absorb or pass on, corporations are just too damn greedy (or really, they incentivize managers to make them as much money as possible, this is what a career is in the US). But the manufacturing work is one of the bright spots, Bernie should take a trip to china, where they are leagues beyond what he thinks will happen in the US, ITS ALREADY THERE! and those factories employ millions of people, maintanance , coding, tooling, etc, etc. no manual labor but getting the robots to do it for them, this employs millions are tradespeople too, hvac electrical, etc etc. So its a matter of staying ahead of the curve, making sure there is a rich ecosystem of companies competing for workers, making sure those companies are small and the people working there wear many hats, challenge themselves and yes grow the economy. And hopefully people will wake up to the reality of the effects isolation will have on the US. their trading partners are already looking elsewhere, looking to china, to africa, to latin america And then the US will be the last one holding the bag.. or tbh, you will be the one applying for visas...
