Using digital tools to create artwork still utilizes everything I have learned as an artist. Yes, it makes certain things faster, like the bucket tool; yes, I’m able to lasso part of my image to fix a proportion whoopsie or to edit my composition. But these things still require that I know and understand things like anatomy or composition and layout. There is no art version of autocorrect I can run to instantly make my compositions stronger, or my colors balanced, or my proportions correct. That’s all me. AI generated work is literally just typing in a prompt and seeing what a program makes for you. It requires no artistic ability. No years of honing one’s craft. If I were to use it today and generate a picture of a cat, that cat would not look like anything I’ve ever drawn; it would not hold my voice, it would not showcase my experience. Super weird people have such a hard time seeing the difference.
