As someone who has been searching for a new job for years now, I can personally attest to how damaging AI-powered technologies have already been with the job market. People are using AI to generate cover letters and resumes and bombard prospective employers, and prospective employers overloaded with more applications to sort through than ever before are turning to AI on their side to filter through candidates. At the same time, as you said here, Senator Sanders, numerous companies are already replacing entry-level positions with AI - which is likely not often actually to their ultimate benefit, but they are doing it anyway due to the simultaneous ever-increasing cost of living. I certainly don't know what the answer is either, but it seems fairly clear that we as a society have failed to prepare for this technological outcome which had actually been foreseen for quite some time. Sure, we did not know precisely when AI-powered technologies would get good enough to replace entry-level worker tasks or even do things like generate realistic-looking audio and video output just from a simple line of text, but we did know advancements were coming, and nothing tangible had been put into action to address any of this. In America specifically, I sure hope the midterm elections in 2026 will be free from any tampering and that the Democrats win back control of Congress so something can be done about any of this, because it is blatantly obvious that the vast majority of Republicans have no interest or compassion for dealing with this serious issue. (Many would still rather blame immigrants for "stealing jobs" which is a horribly misguided read of the situation at hand.)
