TL;DR maybe AI is like the microwave - we all got super excited to use it for EVERYTHING and then realised it was only good at one or two things, so scaled it back. Long version: I'm old enough to remember when microwaves were first released and we all went bonkers and wanted to use them to cook ALL the things. Rubbery cakes and insipid roasts were commonplace, and more and more tools were created to try and mask the fact that it couldn't do everything - special bags for roasts, special "tins" for cakes. And cookbooks! So much ink spilled unnecessarily to try and make microwaves the only tool we needed. But as it turned out, microwaves were really good at reheating leftovers but ovens were really good at baking cakes and doing roasts. So the microwave earned its place on the kitchen bench but eventually we realised we preferred the taste of baked or roasted food from an oven. So when I see my Pinterest and Shorts feeds being overrun with weird AI videos and ads I think that maybe we are having a "microwave" moment and eventually it'll die down. I don't want to see an AI version of a #vanlife fitout, I want to see what an actual person made with actual tools. AI will find its place on the bench, but it won't get rid of all the other things.
