The industrial revolution caused 100 years of chaos. The loss of jobs in agriculture and the textile industry caused a flood of people migrating into larger towns and cities. This caused the growth of slums, and a dramatic increase in poverty, crime and disease. Now multiply that by hundreds of millions. This time it won't just affect the peasants, this time it will affect graduates with bills and lifestyles. Homes will be lost, bills won't be paid, universities will go bankrupt as will many businesses because people lose the ability to consume. That's the problem with Robots and AI. They don't consume!
I've heard people talking about 'universal incomes'! Americans can get universal healthcare in the 21st Century so I doub't they're going to get a universal income.
