there's something to be said about how the comodification of art played a major role in this long before AI. professional artists were always pushed into a niche where all their art looks indistinguishable. art station the best showcase of pro artists looks like everything was made by one person following all the rules of good digital art for videogames etc. people with a passing interest in art only see the same style, the mononoke image in the thumbnail. that's become the standard.
