I agree with you, all but for one point. I think AI is useful *in art* in two points. The first is as an auxiliary tool, think like the blur/smudge tool you used in the hand. I heard visual artists use adobe features such as the AI fill tool. But the usecase where I would use it is, say I'm workin on some music, and need an album cover but can't make visual art or afford the services of one who can. You're right, in theory I could learn how to draw over some months/years, but I could spend that time working on my music. Anyone with the resources should absolutely hire an artist. (Now of course I wouldnt own the copyright to my own album cover because machine generated art isnt copyrightable, but thats a separate issue) Austin McConnell has a video about how he made a video with AI voice acting because he couldn't find VAs within his budget despite numerous casting calls. And it took days of work to get the takes necessary to be good. I think that "direction" of AI is a form of art in itself in the same way a studio sound engineer makes art when he mixes other people's work for them, or a movie director makes art by refining the acting in a movie, art independent of the acting itself. Iunno. I'm always torn, and it seems I have a different opinion every day i revisit the question.
