Each case requires individual assessment to determine what the student actually understands versus what the AI contributed. This diagnostic work takes time. The automation of grading and lesson planning does create efficiencies. But those time savings may be offset by the increased complexity of evaluating student work and maintaining learning outcomes when AI is readily available to students outside of direct supervision.
The question is not whether AI can automate certain teaching tasks. It can. The question is whether the time saved exceeds the time required to address the new challenges AI introduces to the learning process. This is also ignoring the rise of the 'companionship' of chatbots and the possible widening of social norms and classroom behaviors.
