I can smell the fear and prejudice in these comments. As a former pro illustrator, I have seen styles/fads/techniques/more come and go. What did we do about it? We flowed with it, we gave up, or stuck with what we were doing and got left behind.
Come up with all the excuses you want, like the dataset is theft, or b-but my copyrights!, or we gonna lose jobs to some artist that uses this tool, etc. Currently, you are in some stage of denial my friends. Learn what it really is that you are afraid of and come to understand it, and your so-called enemy.
There is just so much to unpack, but practically every argument I have read against so-called AI art is fallacious and weak. The AI is simply supercharging the process what we artists do and puts it in the hand of everyone, even a non-artist such that my 30 years of experience is given to those who don't deserve it, and I will have to change what I do to feed myself.
Been there and done that. 2022 is the year that everything changed for creatives. More than when desktop publishing came on the scene, more than photoshop and illustrator, more than being able to buy paint and brushes at an art store vs mixing paint and making your own brushes. We have the biggest disruption in my life time, and it is fair! Anyone and everyone can have a thought and the computer can make that dream a reality. If you want to paint by hand still, and someone still wants to buy it, then you have a marketable skill! That is your choice, and that is how you can possibly carve out a living "making art". But to get miffed because the power of art creation is now in every human's hand is selfishness and trying to protect that which can't and shouldn't be protected.
If you don't want others, including AI, to not be influenced by your works, you must keep them away from others eyes lest they "steal" your precious images...
I wonder how the great masters must feel if they knew how many people have copied their works and style without attribution, and no recompense to their progeny? How about the living masters? How many of them were miffed when they heard how much their art influenced that fan?
Greg Rutkowski is a fine artist, but how many people knew him compared to now? If someone wants an original Rutkowski, they can pay him handsomely for an original or even a giclee or whatever. If someone is going to pay a Rutkowski clone or AI Rutkowski clone, they weren't going to pay Greg's price anyway.
I can't speak for Greg, but considering how much his name is out there, he should be able to make a good profit from it if he cared to. And if you are a scrub artist concerned about your work being stolen. Just stop.
My advice, folks, is stop whining and commiserating with your fellow fearful artists and figure out how you can stand out and continue to have a career in "art", or not. All this whining will not get you where you want to be.
