I hate to say it but guardrails will restrain progression and evolution of AI. If holding back AI was ok then no problem. The real issue in all of this is that it’s a race and every competitor is trying to outdo everyone especially when it comes to countries and their enemies. They do not want the enemy to get ahead and so if guardrails causes enemies to get the lead in the race, guess what, those guardrails are either going to have to come down or they aren't going to be very strict with them in place. Enforcing very little safety, almost as if it’s just mentioned to make the public feel better about the situation but in reality, it doesn't really do much guarding. I say embrace AI since we can’t stop it anyway and start the UBI Universal Basic Income conversation and shorter work weeks/hours if we still have to work. Since less humans will be needed just make jobs spread out through more people. One job that took one person in the past to do, make 3-5 people do it instead. That way we are still working but much less. If 5 people can now do one job then you'd only work one day a week. This could supplement the UBI to be less demanding since we can still earn some of our money. But if all jobs are gone then UBI all the way of course and education will now be a hobby. Learn if you want but you don’t have to go to college anymore. You also can find some work I’m sure if you really want to just keep busy like doing side hustles or hobbies like creating art in some form and sell it. Or digital creator but the point is that none of it will be required since you will get UBI. It’s more just for extra spending money if you want to do more than just the necessities in life. That’s one of the downsides of having UBI, is that it won’t allow luxurious vacations or things like that. For rich people this will be a drastic change in life. For the poor, not so much different. However, the biggest change that everyone will feel is an abundance of personal time to yourself to do whatever you want. That is something I think is worth something and honestly, I could use more time to myself instead of going to a job 5 days a week. So even if they could do something with the much less jobs like just spread it out thinly amongst everyone, going to work 1-2 times a week would also be pretty damn awesome. So I say AI might not be so bad. We just have to wait and see but while we wait, please government, start to plan something so we aren’t fucked when everything drops. Get something going now cause we all know how fast the government moves. AGI will be here before you know it.
