In quantum mechanics, the collapse of the wave function maps mathematical probabilities into physical observables. In the brain, physical signals are mapped into thoughts and feelings - in a rough sense, the reverse process. In this spirit, I agree with Professor Penrose on a possible common link - however, neither of these two mappings are well understood. What is miraculous to me is that we can map our thoughts into physical signals in the form of electrical pulses in semiconductor chips to execute algorithms that our mind conceives. The interrelationships between thoughts, humans and machines may ultimately represent an axiom that we need to accept rather than try to explain.
