Tesla argues that having one type of sensor and a really good brain to process the sensor data is actually more safe than the Waymo approach of having multiple sensors and a mediocre processing system to sort through the different types of sensor data coming in. So it's not that Tesla doesn't care about safety and Waymo does, they're essentially debating what tech stack makes AVs safer.
