China obtains its super power status from low cost and plentiful labour. AI is a great leveler, because robots built in other countries can make things for no wages at all, just power. Why make a television in China and export it all the way to the US, when an AI robot can make it in America for nothing? I think it may be quite a jump to assume self improving super AI over the next few years. History shows that progress happens in rapid advances, followed by long periods of little progress. I expect big technological changes soon, but not on the scale or speed detailed here.
