Anyone ever meet someone who liked to draw anime characters and started with line work, skipping posing and rough shapes? I feel like modern AI is focused on the color and value of the pixels in the final result, skipping over the intresting steps.
Better AI of the near future will have more intentionslity of the underlying processes that built up to the image in question.
