I think Rogers' starting position is a misunderstanding of the meaning of AI. Artificial intelligence does not imply that it's actually intelligence. It's in the word artificial.
For instance. I can have an artificial rose. It looks like a rose, and it can even artificially smell like a rose, but it can never be a rose, as a core component of a rose is that it is biological.
This also shouldn't be confused with growing something artificially.
