In the Terminator films, Skynet was a contained AI that the military released in response to a threat. In our world, there is no releasing Skynet. AI developers are literally publishing each iteration of their systems on the open web. If an adversarial general intelligence were to emerge, it would have instantaneous access to every vulnerable system connected to the internet. It would truly be unstoppable.
