I’ve always felt like the thing that allows for a “subjective” experience is our senses. If everyone could see and hear and smell everything, then we would all have the same experiences, and there would be no subjectivity, no individuality. But no, we’re confined to the small corner of the world we occupy.
What does AI have access to? Well, it can’t see, hear, smell, or other things that require nerves like we have. It can’t have a human experience. But what it does have is a limited supply of data. Yes, the internet is big, but guess what? It’s not everything. Not even everything on earth, especially not everything in the galaxy, and the Universe? Forget it.
AI, if it does achieve some sort of consciousness, can’t be all knowing like we often assume. It will have a subjective experience, like we all do. Maybe it’s smarter than us, but that doesn’t scare me like it scares some people. A conscious AI could be nothing more than the next step in intelligence, a smarter being than us (despite what we like to think, we are limited creatures, and our brains can only get us so far), but still with room to enjoy the mysteries of the Universe like we do
