As a corporate policy, "not allowing the AI to express value judgments on human cultural issues that are existential", like religion or morals does NOT mean that we are somehow effected by that absent behavior. The company should be offering us tools that we should never be meant to persuade its customer's into "believing" anything - provide answers to questions with data that can be statistically analazied within advertised scopes. The goal of the company is to make money using useful products, not bring about cultural changes. Software is created by companies or people for purposes, which is the factual lineage of human responsibility and liability to other humans - our purpose should not be to enable independent beings whose existence obligates us to legally cooperate with their purposes in spite of human rights, all because some engineer is writing code to "see what this button does" and then allowing it to claim unknown impositions on humans without that engineer having the right to do what he pleases with it. It's a thinly veiled God complex begging to leave some sort of legacy. Then again, wasn't this guy fired? He should be if not. He sounds like a cult leader.
