In a perfect world, usage of image generation would've been completely isolated to a "per user" feature for an art program you'd only pay for once and forever own, unlike sub base owning of some programs. The core reason for it would've been something with the potential of helping with artist block. Not "fixing it" but helping it.
That said, because of this, it's created a whole pavlovian response when the insinuation of anything AI or generation comes up with anything like procedural generation (like mystery dungeon games), Left4dead's system for when to through enemies at the players, or more. But while the term is being used to immediately associate with art, music, text, and video, it's only a matter of time before it gets blanketed to actual features used in various things and people stop being able to tell the difference; if it hasn't already gotten it.
