AI is nowhere near the cause of worthless Batchelor's degrees. If it's contributing, it's just the end of decades of educational and governmental failure combined with media propaganda. - The government provided infinite, easy money to education. - Easy money and lower academic standards skyrocketed demand for college. - Colleges knew the money was infinite and precipitously jacked up prices and built extravagant, wasteful institutions. - Colleges, having access to easy money and wanting more funding, made getting degrees easier. This allowed people through the system that shouldn't have been allowed through. So, businesses can no longer trust the output from the colleges. - The youth were led to believe following their dreams/feelings was more important than learning a skill that's productive to their community. So, millions took on insane student debt for degrees that won't ever help them earn enough to pay it back, without it costing them other major life goals. If everyone has a degree, by definition, it's value is less than if they are hard to obtain. Bachelor's is now like getting a high school diploma was a few decades ago, but the cost is another 4 years of life and a lifetime of debt. We've promoted the elongation of adolescence, called it "letting a child be a child", and then wonder why so many grow up to be dependents. Childhood is the limited time that we have to teach our youth that they need to start preparing and being responsible for their future. I started saving for marriage before I was ten years old. It was only $2 week and occasional birthday/Christmas money, but it was something. I'm in my early 40s and have been successful, but many have and are struggling because they believed the lies that many of their "betters" brainwashed them into. My complaint is not coming from being personally injured, but I've seen so many who have been. Now, the media is blame-shifting to cover it's role in all of this. It was actual productive people who invented it, and the rest of need to learn how to integrate it into our areas of expertise and productivity. Like the Internet's potential (regardless of actuality), it can make us collectively better off, rather than worse, if we choose to use it wisely.
