*sigh* the false equivilency between China's regulations and regulations on "Western AI" are stupid. China has a gigantic investment already in AI as part of their internal survailence systems, which get trained to recognize a person gait, looks and other identifying aspect of their physical bodies then links that to their government id/passports. China also is even more hypocritical than we are regarding "this law is for ye, not for me." thinking.
THe Cinese government will continue to advance their AI technoliogy because they will do it under a governmental umbrella, they do not have a freedom of information act, they do not have all sorts of other things that western countries have as limiting factors.... Also, most of our government is old white men who still confuse Facebook and MySpace, what useful insights will they possibly have on something that very few people actually understand?
