It's a little bit of an issue that AI can even reasonably be justified in higher education, because the point of college kinda isn't to learn anything but rather to get a document that qualifies you for a job. It's an open secret that college does a GOD AWFUL HORRIBLE job at actually preparing students for their presumed career, so it kinda doesn't matter if you actually learn what they're trying to teach you. Just do the easy thing that gets you the passing grade instead. When I went to undergrad and grad school, these AI tools didn't exist. I did the work as expected, got really good grades, and then I went on to get jobs where I didn't use almost any of that and now had to learn how to actually do the thing. I switched careers into one that now has new education requirements for progression, so I'm in class part time while working full time. I simply don't give shit about the classes, I'm doing the minimum to pass with good grades. I'm not, like, writing full essays with AI or anything like that, but I've been around the block before and I know the whole thing is a pony show anyway. So fuck it. I do think general and broad education is important. Pretty much everything up through a standard high school curriculum, I legitimately believe it is in a human being's best interest to learn it. But once you start getting into specialized education... How about actually making it useful?
