So before I go into the slight defense of AI art I have, let me start by saying if it dies I wont miss it, and it would be a net positive for humanity if it was gone. That said, my dnd dungeon master uses AI to quickly shit out an npc picture to help his visual oriented players know what theyre looking at. No one in our group is an artist, and no one in our group has the money or the foresight to pay an artist for a picture. If google has a picture on it we can steal for examples, we typically do, but sometimes there just isnt a giant golden golem with one big arm and glowing blue runes etched around its shoulders. Additionally, when this sort of thing can be generated in less than a minute, its super helpful. Another DM of mine used the weird melty aspects of ai art to have an eldritch horror campaign, using the hard to recognize aspect of the flaws to make it unsettling. He is also an author so he was capable of backing it up with a very equal description, but the effect was quite strong. To sort of counter my own point, neither of these DMs try to claim any degree of skill at "art" by doing this, their "art" is that of play, not pen. If they tried to sell it as more than that, it would be an issue for sure.
