One of the cool things about art is that you can't pin it down. If you try to categorize it by saying you're only an artist if you do xyz, the definition will move right from under your thumb. I like AI art because it has this rebellious nature to it. It's true that most so called AI art sucks, but most regular art sucks, and most music sucks, etc.
There's a lot of amazing AI art and artists who use it out there. The AI tools that the artists use doing less plagiarism than any human could do themselves, because unlike a human who has seen let's imagine, 2000 different artists in their lifetime to inform them how to draw, a neural network has seen millions in learning how to draw.
These AI don't steal the pixels any more than a person does. Like it or not these neural networks are learning how to draw rather than saving any image data. I see a lot of close mindedness here and around this topic.
