It's not so much about AI replacing developers, over the long run, it's very likely to happen in most sectors, where it went wrong is that many companies have jumped the gun and tried to replace humans too soon without going through the trials and errors that takes time to see where AI can work effectively in certain areas.
The transition is supposed to take years, maybe even a decade or two, yet some companies thought it was a good idea to speed that up to 1 or 2 years and wonder why things went wrong, but regardless, AI is very likely going to take over a lot of jobs, it's just a matter of putting quality control first with it, which clearly many companies didn't and wonder why it went wrong with them, so basically, they ran before they could walk.
