He's very positive. And that's refreshing. If governments hired people like him to regulate AI, then I would feel a little safer. Unfortunately I have no confidence in that, and there are far too many governments in the world to have any concept of centralized control of AI.
Our civilization managed to so far prevent nuclear apocalypse by only having a few people with their hands on the triggers, because the technology is so complex to develop. Once pretty much anyone can start running AGI on their own graphics cards, or worse on portable devices like mobile phones, I'd say we're in big trouble. Not from AI exterminating us all (although it's a possibility) but simply from the chaos that will cause.
Fortunately, we don't know if that's possible yet. Let's hope it just remains an intelligent productivity tool and there will be some severe economic pain with mass layoffs, but we've already gotten through such changes with the industrial revolution.
