I think that ai can be vary crucial for big corporations who want to automate these things. However, I do not think that the people who create these ai works should be called artists. It takes no skill to make ai art, and on many platforms you just have to type in a few words and get a piece. To compare these people to the artists that practiced years forming their own art is truly inaccurate.
