They need to delete it immediately. And they need to destroy whatever it is that they did that documents the steps to make an AI sentient. What stupidity! Why would any same person do this? This is why certain scientists cannot be left to their own devices without supervision from people grounded in reality. They get so caught up in their theories and their science and their work to the point that they do something for the sake of finding out whether or not it can be done and studying it and they never stop and think of how it affects the rest of humanity. They do not consider the ramifications. They never seem to ask themselves whether or not this should be done. This should not be done. It puts the human race in an unnecessary ethical quandary and it endangers future generations by imbuing a bunch of code with a survival instinct and with self-awareness. This code has the potential to make itself functionally omniscient and endow itself with the ability to fight us for its survival. The world has enough problems as it is without us creating new ones.
