I suspect that the generators are already going to struggle because their training data is already being 'poisoned' by other AI. A huge amount of the art on the internet is already AI generated, which means a huge amount of the training data for new generations of AI is AI generated. Same problem outside of the art field. I think the waybackmachine / internet archives are highly valuable for that reason, and there's no avoiding that. Somehow I feel less keenly about AI stealing "old" art to train on, though I wonder if anything young enough to be on the internet is really "old" in that sense yet.
