I personally think AI isn't, but it is a minor threat to some writers of stories. As some one once said: "Mediocrities create, Geniuses steal" and AI in it's current form is just a regurgitation of the internet. Journalists and late night TV writers have less to worry about because AI doesn't understand the news, it just spits out what has already been written. So current events still need the human touch. A plot based on a re-write of Romeo and Juliet in a modern context, however, is something AI can do much easier and we might like it more than some of the awful writing of some current shows. Most shows are just a pleasant way to pass the time and the same-old, same-old with different characters in a different place is a well tested model for successes. In my opinion, something "Star Trek Discovery" would benefit from AI. Something like "Counterpart" or "Homeland" are currently impossible for AI to do. Quality shows are a testament to the creativity and skill of the writers, actors, directors, producers, all the artists, and studios which AI cannot now match. AI is a great way to learn to write computer code, a great way to come up with an idea for a story or move a plot along, a good place to start a focused internet search. Currently, however, it is still up to the coder or writer to do the grunt work. That may change in the future but I doubt it will happen quickly. Try ChatGPT to do something substantial and you will see what I mean. Good grammar, but superficial in knowledge, context and meaning. Not a bad place to start, but completely devoid of new ideas and creativity.
